Hi!!
Myself and my husband are moving to Perth in January
. Flights and removal company has been arranged. We are coming over on a Skilled Independent 175 visa. I have been living in Scotland for the past 5 years and I'm really excited to meet some South-Africans when we relocate!!
Can anyone out there help us with the process of getting rented accommodation? The real estate agents dont bother to respond to our requests, never mind give us some advise!
We are planning on buying our own place after settling, but we are looking to rent a one bedroomed furnished flat, preferably city centre, for approximately 6 months.
Any advise on how to rent a property and also which areas should be avoided?
Hoping to hear from someone soon!!

BEST OF LUCK. AGENTS CAN BE DIFFICULT AS THEY LOOK OUT FOR THE INTEREST OF THE OWNER. TRY FIND A PRIVATE RENTAL, CHECK THE NET. |

Hi Dbel, hope this finds you guys well and exited about your move to perth, you should be. Regarding rental advice, i would suggest waiting until you guys get here to start your hunt for a rental property as the demand for rentals is pretty high and therefore i would not imagine that you will get much response from local agents before you are in the country. Most rentals that do become available are normally opened for viewing once a week for about half an hour. Sounds Crazy but it seems to create urgency among the potential tenants therefore they are normally taken after the first viewing. I would probably suggest as you mentioned to hire a furnished apartment or similair and from there you will be able to take a look at whats available etc. I am sure you wont battle as there are a number of rentals that do become available as most people rent while building new homes which normally take around a year to complete. Hope this helps you even just a little, feel free to ask anything else you may want and i will do my best to advise you. All the best to your family.

Hi!
Thank you very much for the info! I'm taking your advise and we're going to renting a furnished appartment for the first couple of weeks. Even though I find this very expensive, I think it will be the best in the long run. At least this will give us some idea of which suburb/area we'd like to live later.
If any of you have an idea of good locations to live in - we dont have kids, so not really concerned about schools etc. Would like to be quite central as we enjoy going out and having a couple of beers on occassion!
Anyway, hoping to hear from you soon.
Cheers
Dbell

Hi Dbell, have you guys got an apartment in mind? If so may i ask which one or what location then i could probably tell you weather or not it is fairly central or not. The closer you stay to the city the pricier all accomadation becomes, weather its furnished or not. Some people like the idea of being close to the city, i think its nice however also like what the outer suburbs have to offer. Most places will have there local pubs and resturants anyway, so i guess one has to look at what budget youre on etc etc. What skill are you comming in on?

No idea! Decided we'll start looking in December. Maybe book into a hotel/motel for the first week while house hunting. We heard Leederville/Subacio is quite nice. Any suggestions??
We're coming on a skilled independent (175).

Hi dbell, I am sure you are tierd of all the advise. Thebest is to find an agent when yo get here. You can look on the net and have a few places in mind. Some agents advertise the place stating from when it will be availbale. LJ Hooker os pretty good. We found our place on their website and managed to squeeze in a viewing the day we landed. I think we were just lucky. If you are looking for a flat look along the Fremantle rail line anywhere between Perth and Fremantle. There are pleanty of units along there specially in Subiaco and surrounds. Good luck and hope you find what you are looking for !!

Hi Johan
Baie dankie vir die raad. Ek stres 'n bietjie, want ek wil graag verblyf uitgesorteer he voordat ons daar kom.
Groete
DBell

Hi DBell,
There are some very nice places around south Perth. Try Como for example. Subiaco is old but quite nice. very "artsy" if you like. Kind of like Melville in Johannesburg. I don't really know leederville other than the fact that there are plenty of Safricans there including Boktown. Mount Lawly is old but is on the up and up. very close to the city. Honestly I would look around leeming, Bull Creek, Murdoch, Willerton and even Bateman. these are all south of the river, but well located for public transport, schools, freeway access and good shopping. It is worth the look. |
