Hi everyone

I would really appreciate any feedback regarding this topic.

We obviously all know the situation in SA, and a few weeks ago was the final straw - my 7 and 1 year old nephews had guns pointed at their heads because a few pigs wanted cell phones and money. They even tried to take my sister's car, with the 1 year old still strapped into the baby chair. Thank God everything turned out ok (and when I say ok, I mean that no one was physically harmed; but the emotional effects have been absolutely awful on my sister and 7 year old nephew). After a long family discussion, we decided that it's time to leave the country we call home. As sad and difficult as it is to do, we can't just sit around waiting for something really terrible to happen before we make the decision to go.

Of course now everyone's opinions are coming in: "you can't run away from what's meant to happen", "you're being melodramatic", "the grass isn't always greener on the other side", "only South Africa has such great weather". I am sorry, but I don't believe that weather is reason enough to risk the lives of your loved ones! I really don't know if I see any hope for SA anymore and I don't want my nephews and future children to live in fear and at risk.

What I'm asking is, do any of you regret making the move to Canada? Please be brutally honest. If you had the chance, would you take it all back and never have moved.

I really applaud all of you for taking the chance; it couldn't have been easy and you certainly have guts!

Any information on where to start the process of immigrating. Did anyone move over without having a job offer first? If you did get the job offer, did you still need to have the specific $ in your bank account?

Looking forward to hearing from you

Warm wishes
Nicky

Hi Nicky
I cant help too much re the process as I am still going through it myself. Its different for me, as I got canadian citizenship through my mother and I will be sponsoring my wife.
That aside, last year July I had 4 armed men come into my home, kick me around and ask me if I wanted to see my wife raped! I thank the Lord Jesus for his protection and care, they didnt harm my wife or my 2 year old daughter. In fact my daughter (who never falls asleep at 7 which is her bed time) was out like a light by 7:10pm which is when they came in. I DO NOT for 1 minute believe that you are running away from the problem etc etc which is what many south africans liberals will spout when you bring up your plans to immigrate.
My brother moved there 9 years ago and hasnt looked back.
Theres some great tips and advise on canadacoffeeclub.com
Re the process the best place to start is http://www.cic.gc.ca/ its the citizenship and immigration website.
All the best in your endeavers
